After 23 years of the Monastery's existence, the first fundraising dinner in Ottawa for the Monastery, was held on Saturday June 4th 2016, at the hall of St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church. The event was organized by three young people with the precious help of friends and supporters of the Monastery from the parishes of St Elias and the Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church in Ottawa as well.
Amongst the 200 people present at the event were the Ambassador of Greece in Canada Mr. Georgios Marcantonatos and his wife Mrs Vasiliki Tsirou, Fr Ghattas Hajal and Khourieh Helen, Fr. Nektarios Najjar and Khourieh Mireille, Fr. Gregory Tapuc and Preoteasa Michaela as well as many of the Orthodox faithful from the Orthodox parishes of the Ottawa region. As the Abbess Thekla stated in her speech during the night "As Orthodox, we must stay together in order to be strong in our faith and fulfill our duties as Orthodox Christians, in this country we live in. We will only progress spiritually by staying close to God through our parishes". Amongst the speakers were also Fr Nektarios who gave a homily on the essence and importance of monasticism in society, and His Excellency Mr. Marcantonatos who spoke about the importance of the existence of the Monastery in Quebec.
